Unlucky in the Professional Arena, Female Player Mayumi Switches to Streaming Career

Perhaps after the turmoil with her old team INTZ, Mayumi is reconsidering her professional gaming future.

Júlia “Mayumi” Nakamura once gained worldwide fame as the female player for the Brazilian professional League of Legends team INTZ. However, after being showcased in a few trivial exhibition tournaments at the beginning of the season, she was never included in INTZ’s competitive lineup again.

As a result, at the end of May, Mayumi announced her departure from INTZ and even filed a lawsuit against the team for failing to meet contract obligations, using her image unlawfully in promotional activities, and for male teammates exhibiting sexual harassment towards her.

With the turmoil between Mayumi and INTZ still unresolved, it has been challenging for her to find a new team. It seems that Mayumi has also “lost hope” in her dream of professional gaming, especially as the recent wave demanding gender equality and combating sexual abuse against women in esports has further exposed the injustices faced by females in this field.

Recently, Mayumi announced on her personal social media that she would become a streamer on Douyu – one of the largest streaming platforms in China, and she will officially go live starting July 1st. This move marks the official “invasion” of the Brazilian support player into the Chinese market, and it is very likely she will fully transition into streaming in the near future.

This is also a quite understandable choice for Mayumi, as she has many fans in the land of over a billion people. Her Weibo account has surpassed 1 million followers in just six months, so she is sure to become a hot name in the Chinese League of Legends streaming scene in the near future.
