It may sound absurd, but it is true that Gamer Republic – a startup based in California, USA – has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. The goal of Gamer Republic is to acquire a spot in the LCK 2021.

10 million USD is the initial milestone that Gamer Republic aims for; however, with the desire to build and operate their team for at least 2 years, this number has been raised to 20 million USD. Of course, it will be very difficult to suddenly find many sponsors willing to invest in a new team that lacks a foundation or any trusted basis, especially in the LCK region, but Gamer Republic remains serious about their ambition to join one of the most exciting and competitive LMHT.
Beyond the financial aspect, Gamer Republic’s project also plans to allow supporters on Kickstarter to have full control over the management of the LMHT team. Of course, this will happen if they raise enough funds and get Riot Games’ approval for their application.
Specifically, if you contribute 570 USD (13 million VND) or more, you will become a long-term member of the team. The more money you contribute, the more influence you will have over the coaching staff during the recruitment process, including decisions on who plays, who sits out, and what to do in the Ban/Pick phase, operating similarly to an online coach.

To increase motivation, Gamer Republic stated that a “bonus” will be shared among shareholders if the team wins the LCK or the World Championship.
“The person with the most reasonable decisions” throughout the year will also receive a corresponding title based on the achievements of the team.
Gamer Republic claims to be a startup “gathering game designers and engineers who have worked for top gaming companies in Korea for many years, including Nexon and NC Soft, along with an operational team that has worked for various startups both domestically and internationally for many years.”
They have 34 days left to reach their funding goal, or all contributions will be refunded to supporters. At the time of this article’s publication, Gamer Republic’s project had intrigued 13 backers and raised nearly 22,500 USD.

Gamer Republic is one of 21 organizations believed to have applied to become a permanent member of the league after Riot Korea announced the conversion of the LCK into a franchise league earlier this year. Although there are many challenges ahead, the community strongly supports Gamer Republic’s determination and big vision in this campaign. With the limited time remaining, it is advisable for Gamer Republic to consider marketing strategies and building trust with potential sponsors.
