Recently, former G2 Esports star – Perkz became a guest on one of the most popular podcasts in Croatia. In the first half of the conversation, this Croatian gamer introduced himself and Esports to the listeners, while in the latter half, he revealed many stories surrounding his departure from G2 Esports:
Who creates the strategies? Is it you because you are the captain, or is it thanks to the coach?
Perkz: Coaches are almost useless in this industry, but our coach is not that bad. In traditional sports, coaches are usually former players, and the same goes for League of Legends. But in the early days of League of Legends, coaches were simply guys… pocketing the players’ salaries. Now things are better, but most strategies are thought up by the players. That’s why the atmosphere in the team is so important, as you can speak openly to find ways to improve.

Is Grabbz really a terrible coach? And does Wunder play a lot of League of Legends?
Perkz: Grabbz isn’t exactly terrible; he’s good at analyzing things in-game, but he’s very bad at managing and working with people. Wunder doesn’t play League of Legends much; at the World Championship, he played WoW more than League of Legends.
What’s the difference between a professional player choosing teammates and an amateur player only playing with people they know?
Perkz: Even when I was an amateur player, I was very proactive in finding teammates. And when I was at G2, it was the same. When I joined G2, my CEO Carlos fully trusted me even though I was just a 17-year-old kid. So G2 back then basically had one CEO, one coach, and one young player. That’s why I’ve grown into who I am today. I made many mistakes, from team composition to in-game errors, but the CEO still supported me.

Was leaving G2 your decision? Was it due to offers that were too good to refuse?
Perkz: I’ve been thinking about this since summer. One of the reasons is that I had to play in a position I don’t like. It’s not the position that suits me. I’m more suited to mid lane, as that’s the center of the map and has more personal responsibility.

Can’t you return to the mid lane of G2?
Perkz: Of course I can, but that would be the most disgusting thing I could do. I would never do that. Every decision I make has its consequences. I am very close with my teammates, so I would never do something like that. Caps has been practicing my position since the beginning of the year and understands how bad that position is for him personally. There’s no reason for Caps to join G2 only to be kicked out just because of competition for the mid lane with me.

Where were you offered from?
Perkz: I received offers from Korea, China, Europe, and almost all North American teams. I didn’t want to go to Asia because of cultural differences and language barriers. So the best choice was Cloud9 because they offered me a competitive roster, plus I have two friends here, Zven and Mithy.
So this is the best offer you could get?
Perkz: Actually, no, but I don’t want to talk about that!
Why didn’t you go to Fnatic?
Perkz: Because they wouldn’t let me.
Who is the most talented teammate you’ve ever played with?
Perkz: Of course it’s Caps, his skills are truly insane. There aren’t many people who love this game as much as he does.
Do you think you and Blaber will be the strongest mid/jungle duo in the LCS?
Perkz: Of course it will be us, who else could it be?
