A while ago, Riot Games announced that Dr. Mundo would be getting a complete visual and skill rework in 2021. Today, Riot continues to unveil the latest images of this champion’s rework process. The three main goals Riot is targeting in the rework of Mundo are:
Improving Dr. Mundo’s visuals and storyline to fit the style of League of Legends in recent years. Reworking his skillset while retaining his tankiness, healing, and cleaver throw. Keeping the gameplay of this champion as simple as possible.

Initially, Riot wasn’t sure whether to portray Dr. Mundo as an outstanding doctor or simply a madman, but after discussions, they decided to make Mundo a “funny” doctor mixed with a bit of “darkness”. Next, realizing that Mundo’s appearance seemed somewhat outdated, the design team gave him a newer, more “dapper” hairstyle:

Next, Riot wants Mundo’s outfit to be more fitting for this champion, reflecting his personality and part of his past: just having escaped from a very terrible place.

In addition to his “funny” side, Riot also wants to highlight Mundo’s silliness and goofiness, emphasizing that this champion does not feel physical pain:

According to Riot, the unstable chemicals in Mundo will make this champion “explode”:

Finally, Riot shared that the 2021 version of Mundo will appear on the PBE server in a few months, and this will be the last time Riot shares about the rework process of this champion.
