Ezreal’s Rise in TFT Season 13
Although designed as a physical carry with a lot of potential, Ezreal has often been underutilized in TFT Season 13. The reason is that the 3-cost champion reroll playstyle in Season 13 has proven to be quite weak in execution. Specifically, this type of composition cannot create an early overwhelming presence like 2-cost carry compositions, while its late game potential is not comparable to the more expensive 4-5 cost champions. As a result, Ezreal has often just been used to “activate” the Cannoneer trait in compositions utilizing Tristana or Corki.

However, in patch 13.6, this has changed as players began to turn to Ezreal after the 2-cost reroll compositions (Zeri, Tristana…) were heavily nerfed. Moreover, Riot Games buffing the health bonus for the Rebel trait has also allowed Ezreal to make a strong comeback as this unit will be protected by a solid frontline. Combined with the strong damage available late game with Heimerdinger, the Vanguard – Academy composition is proving to be extremely powerful at this moment.
Building the Vanguard – Academy Composition in TFT Season 13
With the Rebel trait being buffed, players can start the match with Vex, Irelia, and Sett to ensure frontline durability. Furthermore, Vex can hold items for Heimerdinger very effectively, so players need to assemble items early for this unit. Upon reaching level 4, Rell will be a very suitable addition, activating the Vanguard and Seer traits to make the composition sturdier and increase Vex’s energy regeneration.

By the mid-game phase, players should stop buying experience upon reaching level 7 to get Ezreal upgraded to 3 stars as quickly as possible. Additionally, Loris and Leona are also very strong during this phase, helping the composition achieve 4 Vanguards and providing good tankiness. If players are lucky enough to get Heimerdinger early, they should use this unit immediately; otherwise, Lux can be substituted to grab the Academy items to secure victory.

As for the late game phase, players should aim for level 9 after accumulating enough gold from earlier. Strong units like Illaoi, Jayce, Rumble… need to be incorporated into the composition to ensure frontline durability with a 6 Vanguard threshold. Moreover, Jayce also helps players reach the 4 Academy threshold and adds more items and damage. In fact, if players have enough fighter items, Jayce can also be used on the frontline as an excellent tank.

Some Notes When Building the Composition
Ezreal is a champion that deals significant damage through both basic attacks and skills, so Infinity Edge and Blue Bow will be the optimal choices. Additionally, Guinsoo’s Rageblade is also very suitable for this composition as Ezreal will be well-protected by the Vanguard units. Regarding the Hextech Augments, upgrades that provide more items will be very compatible with the Vanguard – Academy composition as key carries like Ezreal and Heimerdinger are in dire need of items.
