League of Legends: Riot Apologizes to the Community for Buffing Bloodthirster and Blade of the Ruined King Without Notice

These items were reduced in price without any announcement from Riot Games.

A few hours ago, the League of Legends community discovered a significant change regarding Bloodthirster and Blade of the Ruined King as their purchase prices were reduced. However, what’s notable here is that Riot Games did not mention this update in the version update post. Therefore, players were extremely confused upon learning this information, as it felt like a direct buff to the Fighter champion class.

Why is Bloodthirster, Blade of the Ruined King priced at 3200 gold in patch 11.6?

Hello, I have a habit of trying out the Practice Mode every time a new version update comes out. And a few moments ago, I was incredibly surprised to see Bloodthirster and Blade of the Ruined King reduced to 3200 gold.

I wonder if this is also applied on other servers? The version update post didn’t mention anything about these items being buffed either. Even when the item Thornmail was reduced in price by 100 gold, it’s hard to accept that there was no announcement regarding the changes to Bloodthirster and Blade of the Ruined King. I even think that Blade of the Ruined King should have been nerfed more in this patch. I hope someone can clarify this issue for me.

Player: “They reduced the price of Thornmail by 100 gold and increased its cooldown. Perhaps Riot forgot to adjust the price formula for these items.”

A representative of Riot had to apologize to the community later

League of Legends design team member – Riot Beluga: “Let me answer that. Because I’m an idiot for not adjusting the purchase price of these 2 items.”

Player: “Will you release a patch tomorrow?”

Riot Beluga: “Why not today?”

Riot quickly adjusted the prices of Blade of the Ruined King, Bloodthirster back to their old values

Essentially, the two items Bloodthirster and Blade of the Ruined King are proving to be the strongest items for the Fighter champion class. Bloodthirster, despite being nerfed, still provides extremely strong healing at this time. For Blade of the Ruined King, the significant buff to its approach and target slow ability in patch 11.5 has made this item incredibly dominant. Thus, it would be unreasonable for Riot to reduce the prices of these items (even by just 100 gold) at this time.

This only leads players to abuse them and create very negative metas. Even if Riot Games genuinely intended to strengthen these items, they should have broadly announced it to players instead of making silent buffs like this. Luckily, the situation was just an error during the version update, and Riot had no intention of buffing these 2 items. Perhaps Riot needs to carefully review the update process for future patches to avoid similar mistakes.
