Yesterday – 10/4, the official Twitter page of Teamfight Tactics posted a rather strange tweet featuring images of the Spirit Beasts corrupted by the Black Mist. Following that, the project director of Teamfight Tactics – Riot Mortdog hinted at the possibility of bringing the Ghost Tribe back to the “meritocracy” of Season 5 through this image. This suggestion was met with fierce opposition from gamers.
So what has caused gamers to despise the Ghost Tribe so much? The answer lies in the tribe’s effect being overly “random.” Essentially, the effect of the Ghost Tribe in Season 1 was to reduce the health of any opposing unit to 100 at the start of a round. No matter how you rearranged your formation, you could not control this effect; it was completely random.
The issue here is that the effect of the Ghost Tribe can significantly affect the win/loss outcome of a round. If you can reduce the health of the enemy team’s carry to 100, you can easily secure victory. However, if the effect applies to unimportant units, you could lose the match very quickly. Remember that 2/3 of the Ghost Tribe units cost 4 gold or more. Investing such a large amount of gold for a random effect is simply not worth it.
Due to this high degree of randomness, Riot Games has never brought back the effect of the Ghost Tribe to Teamfight Tactics since the end of Season 1. Perhaps Riot Mortdog was just trying to “troll” gamers with the aforementioned tweet. Simply put, Riot’s post serves as a reminder that Season 5 is approaching very soon.
With the introduction of the Ruined King – Viego in Teamfight Tactics Season 5, it is also understandable that the Spirit Beasts are affected by the Black Mist he creates.
