A sad fact for VCS fans this MSI season is that GAM Esports (GAM) cannot participate. This is a significant loss for the VCS region in general as well as for the GAM members specifically.

However, even though they are absent from MSI 2021, the VCS community can still estimate GAM’s strength in this year’s MSI ranking through PSG Talon (PSG). The neighboring team from VCS is a familiar name to Vietnamese audiences, and the PCS region is also considered a balanced counterpart to us.

More specifically, during the visit of caster Hoàng Luân to GAM’s gaming house, the team’s COO – Khánh Hiệp Izumin stated that PSG is currently the most competitive international opponent for GAM. Therefore, PSG’s strength and position at MSI 2021 will partially reflect GAM’s standing on the international stage.

As for PSG, they are the true “boss” in their PCS regional tournament. Throughout the Spring 2021 season, this team only lost a single game in the group stage, completely dominating the rest of the tournament. However, on the international stage, PSG did not leave too much of an impression, as they only reached the top 9-12 at the 2020 World Championship.
It can be seen that the positions of GAM and PSG are quite similar; they are the two top representatives of the two weakest regions in the “top 6 major tournaments”, yet still possess elements that can surprise on the international stage.

Finally, PSG Talon’s Group B is arguably “easier” than Group A (which once had GAM). Therefore, if PSG successfully advances from this Group B, VCS fans can also be confident that GAM has the capability to reach the top 6 at MSI 2021. PSG’s first match at MSI 2021 against MAD Lions will begin at 1:00 AM on May 7.
