Upon its release, Teamfight Tactics was seen as a superior version of Auto Chess, attracting significant attention from the League of Legends community at the time – seeking a casual game after intense rank climbing. At that time, TFT was referred to as a game of luck, where a player’s chance of achieving a favorable team composition and reaching top 1 or 2 heavily depended on luck.
However, the element of luck has diminished over time, especially with the introduction of ranked mode in TFT. Players typically focus on certain team compositions to rank up most effectively and will often try to roll as much as possible to obtain the desired level and champions. Additionally, some gamers employ a money-holding strategy, using a large amount of gold at a specific stage to gain an advantage in champion quality and level compared to others. In the current season 5, many players, even after just clearing round 4, and sometimes before reaching the Carnivore or Wolf rounds, have already achieved levels 7 or 8.

Nonetheless, some players argue that the game still requires a significant amount of luck, especially after the introduction of Dark equipment, as not all items provide more benefits than drawbacks, or players may not receive the desired component items.
Regarding this issue, the lead designer of TFT – Riot Mortdog posted a meme implying that TFT is not purely a luck-based game, but also involves a fair amount of skill. His post garnered considerable attention from the gaming community.

Overall, the game TFT can now be viewed as a combination of luck but also requires a lot of skills such as situational reading, team composition rotation, and piece arrangement. Only by effectively combining these elements can players rank up quickly and efficiently.
