Even the Korean media is “accusing” Gumayusi and T1 unfairly
Recently, a headline from a Korean newspaper has outraged the League of Legends community in general and T1/Gumayusi fans in particular. The article focused on the statement of T1 CEO Joe Marsh that “a personal proposal and discussion is needed for Gumayusi to enter the starting lineup for the Regular Seasons 2025.” The article even went so far as to accuse the T1 CEO of abusing his power while claiming Gumayusi is relying on connections to secure a spot. “This action could set a bad precedent that pulls the entire Esports scene down,” the article charged against Gumayusi and the CEO of T1.

This has even left neutral League of Legends viewers, who are not particularly fond of Gumayusi, feeling perplexed, if not outraged. While it is true that Gumayusi has had some disappointing performances, to view this player as a rookie or someone untalented based solely on that would mean that at least 70% of the current Marksmen in League of Legends are undeserving of competing anymore.

Next, the article claims that “Gumayusi is declining in performance.” However, in 2025, he has only played 2 official matches in the LCK Cup. With a record of 1 win – 1 loss, that is simply not enough to judge anyone. In fact, previously and even now, Gumayusi is still the reigning champion of the Worlds.

One viewer bluntly stated: “I still don’t understand why there is a total assault on Gumayusi? Why is a player who is the reigning champion of the Worlds, with 2 Worlds titles, returning to his rightful position pulling the entire Esports scene down? Gumayusi isn’t influential enough for that, and Smash being benched may not necessarily lead T1 or League of Legends to failure.”

And as always, T1 has not taken any action regarding Gumayusi
It goes without saying, the article has been out for at least 3 days and T1 remains… silent just like in every other drama that has erupted since late 2024. The team may be struggling with issues of their own making, or for some reason that only T1 management knows. But it can be said that trust is gradually dwindling among T1 fans, and perhaps many are hoping this season will pass quickly so that all parties can “free” each other.
