Recently, Taiwanese media reported that former League of Legends player – Lau Kurtis “Toyz” Wai Kin, was arrested today, September 29, for possession and trafficking of marijuana.
According to a representative from the Taichung City Prosecutor’s Office, Toyz is accused of “trafficking, possessing secondary drugs and marijuana”; he is currently being held in custody while his home is being searched. Previously, the online community discovered a Facebook post by Toyz six days ago, explaining “marijuana culture”. However, this post has since been deleted or hidden.
Taiwanese media state they are still trying to contact Toyz or his manager for clarification but have been unsuccessful. Some sources suggest that Toyz has submitted a confession to seek a lighter sentence. Previously, this former player had a dispute with another streamer, and shortly after, news broke of his drug trafficking accusations.
Based on these details, it appears that Toyz’s involvement in the trafficking and possession of large quantities of drugs is quite real, and the owner of the first-ever League of Legends World Championship trophy (Fnatic did not receive the trophy previously; the Summoner’s Cup was only introduced in 2012) will have to face trial and face prison time for these illegal actions.
Toyz is considered a legend in the esports world, with his most notable achievement being the champion title at the 2012 League of Legends World Championship with Taipei Assassins, after defeating Azubu Frost in the finals.
As of now, Toyz and TPA remain the only names outside of the LCK that have been able to defeat Koreans in a Worlds final. Toyz is also the owner of the TPA Orianna skin and is regarded as one of the best players in history with this champion.
After retiring, Toyz became a streamer and participated in several small business activities. However, contrary to his calm demeanor during professional play, this former player often leaves mixed impressions with his brash comments regarding banned substances and frequently “kicks war” with some other streamers.
