On December 23rd (Vietnam time), the Vietnamese Esports community in general and League of Legends: Wild Rift in particular were astonished when Minas, a key player of SBTC Esports, was sentenced to a global ban by Riot for gambling behavior. This is the second global ban in the history of Vietnamese Esports, with the first being his brother Zeros, who received a ban for making inappropriate comments related to the pandemic.

However, later that evening, after announcing his retirement, Minas posted another status subtly implying that not only he was involved but that there are others as well. Additionally, Minas expressed his surprise that his confession was “recorded and sent to Riot” by the organization (SE). He also claimed that he was “naive and trusting”, but through this punishment story, he has learned “who is good, who is bad, and whom to stay away from”.

However, within just a few minutes, Minas deleted the status. But that was enough time for it to spread across various Vietnamese Esports communities, especially within League of Legends: Wild Rift. Most opinions believe that since Minas has made a mistake, he needs to show genuine remorse. Whether there are other individuals involved or not, Riot will investigate on its own. Moreover, Minas’s insinuation of blaming SE for recording his confession and reporting it to Riot is entirely misguided, as his actions have directly impacted SE’s reputation. If they hadn’t reported it, the consequences could have been much worse once the situation became public. Not to mention, it was under the SE banner that Minas enjoyed glory in League of Legends: Wild Rift throughout this time.

However, from Minas’s status, it suggests that there may still be many similar cases that have yet to come to light. If such cases do exist, the organizations and individuals involved need to investigate and verify promptly to restore a clean, honest, and professional Esports environment.
