As we know, Riot Games recently announced that Skarner is the victorious champion in this year’s rework vote for 2022. This is reasonable considering that among other nominated champions like Tryndamere, Quinn, or Shyvana, Skarner is viewed as the most outdated character. Essentially, the gameplay of this character has seen no changes or breakthroughs over the years, as Skarner has an overly simple skill set compared to modern League of Legends.

Right after the news of Skarner winning the rework vote was announced, the happiest people were undoubtedly the players who love this champion. They were so eager that they came up with a plethora of rework ideas for Skarner and compiled them to send to Riot Games. Additionally, players who enjoy Skarner are also calling on Riot to remove the current Crystal Spire passive, as it proves to be uninteresting and even grants opponents additional resources.

“It’s surprising that Skarner has a lot of diverse build paths throughout his existence, being built both as a tank and a bruiser. Most rework ideas wish to retain that flexibility as his skills scale with both AD, AP, and health. Skarner has always been associated with dealing mixed damage, so these rework ideas aim to keep that aspect. Basically, Skarner’s abilities should deal magic damage, while his passive should provide mixed damage capability.
Moreover, the Skarner fan community agrees that Riot should remove the Crystal Spire in the upcoming rework. This is almost the only passive in the game that allows opponents to completely negate it, making Skarner overly dependent on whether his allies want to contest the Crystal Spire or not” – Quoted from a heartfelt post by the “Skarner main” community.

Essentially, the idea behind the Crystal Spire was created to allow Skarner to farm comfortably in that area while increasing his attack speed and regenerating energy for this character. However, this makes Skarner overly dependent on the Crystal Spire and seems quite weak when fighting in positions outside of this area of influence.
Not to mention, when you happen to find yourself in a situation where you’re being map pressured, Skarner becomes even more “useless” as opponents take control of the Crystal Spire. This is clearly a highly frustrating situation, leading to very few players using Skarner currently; in fact, this champion has the lowest pick rate in League of Legends. It seems Riot should heed the ideas of passionate players regarding Skarner and remove the Crystal Spire passive in the future.
