In the VCS Spring 2022, GAM Esports is still considered one of the top contenders. Not only for the VCS Spring championship and a ticket to MSI 2022, but also for a spot at the SEA Games 31 as representatives for the host country Vietnam competing in League of Legends.
With these responsibilities, GAM has introduced a new slogan for fans: “Rise As One”. At the same time, the yellow and black team has performed excellently in both the VCS Spring 2022 and the SEA Games 31 qualifiers. They defeated their “arch-rival” CERBERUS Esports in their opening match of the VCS Spring this year and are currently one of the 8 teams in the SEA Games 31 qualifiers.
Recently, GameK had the opportunity to conduct an interview with GAM’s jungler and captain – Levi, to hear him discuss the team’s goals for this season and explain the new slogan: “Rise As One”.
Interviewer: Hello Levi. First, I wish you and the GAM Esports team good health and much success in the tournaments you participate in this new year. Currently, GAM has achieved quite good results in both VCS Spring 2022 and the SEA Games 31 League of Legends qualifiers. With both tournaments running simultaneously, how has you and GAM prepared?
Levi: Hello to all GameK readers. To answer your question, we have only recently realized that we must compete in both tournaments at the same time. In terms of preparation, we just have a fighting spirit and try our best.
Interviewer: GAM will certainly always set the highest goals for every tournament they participate in, but their opponents will have similar goals. Do you feel that the Spring 2022 and the upcoming matches in the SEA Games 31 qualifiers will be challenging? What advantages does GAM have?
Levi: Surely the other teams in the VCS will give their all, even more than 100% this year, so the matches will be very fierce. But GAM will also “try hard” like that, even more so. Our advantage is that we already have a strong foundation with skilled members in each position and good team spirit.
Interviewer: What do you think about the opinion that “Vietnam is guaranteed a medal at the SEA Games 31”? In your opinion, who is the most daunting opponent for Vietnam’s League of Legends at this SEA Games?
Levi: Fans have the right to think positively as Vietnam currently stands out in the Southeast Asian League of Legends scene compared to other countries. However, sports always have surprises. Therefore, I hope that whichever team represents Vietnam at the SEA Games 31 will not be complacent or underestimate their opponents. As for the most daunting opponent for Vietnam’s League of Legends at the SEA Games, it would be the team itself. As long as we are confident and not complacent, I believe we will be fine.
Interviewer: Recently, there have been some rumors that if a team qualifies for both the SEA Games 31 and represents the VCS at MSI, they will have to give up MSI. What is GAM’s viewpoint on this information, knowing that GAM’s goal is to compete in all tournaments, including MSI and SEA Games 31?
Levi: Surely any team that wins the VCS and qualifies for the SEA Games 31 will want to participate in both tournaments. Our goal is also to win all tournaments. The team and I at GAM always think that competing in the SEA Games 31 is representing Vietnam. This is a great opportunity to bring home a gold medal for the country, thereby helping esports gain more recognition.
Interviewer: This year’s slogan for GAM is “Rise As One”. Can you explain the meaning of this slogan to the fans? What message does GAM want to send to the League of Legends community in Vietnam and the world through this slogan?
Levi: We can understand it literally as “Rise together as a collective”. The collective here is both GAM Esports striving to achieve the top position and the audiences, fans of GAM, and the entire community that loves esports. Because we want to represent Vietnam at international tournaments and prove the strength of the Vietnamese League of Legends scene after two years of absence from international competitions.
