6 Challenger
It’s no exaggeration to say that during the first half of Season 6, the Challenger team was one of the most favored compositions with numerous powerhouses capable of “carrying the team”. Units like Samira, Yone, Fiora… all dealt tremendous damage, allowing this composition to easily dominate rounds of combat. However, in Season 6.5, it’s sadly noticeable that the 6 Challenger team has almost completely vanished from the meta despite having Draven and Tryndamere.

The reason for this largely stems from the removal of Yone, Fiora, and Samira by Riot from Teamfight Tactics, which significantly weakened the damage output of this team comp. Even with Draven or Tryndamere, the Challenger team is not any stronger. Draven is overly reliant on the VIP effect that the Elegant trait provides, while Tryndamere, lacking the Chemtech effect, is easily taken down. As a result, players have gradually abandoned the 6 Challenger team in favor of stronger effects.
Mages
Regardless of the season, Mage compositions have always been one of the classic and strongest team comps in Teamfight Tactics. With powerful magic damage, this composition always finds a place in the meta. However, Season 6.5 is an exception, as the 6 Mage composition has almost vanished, making items that increase magic resistance suddenly “obsolete”. Indeed, the departure of Lux and her ability to “one-shot” enemy teams has visibly weakened the Mage composition.

Although Riot has added another 4-cost Mage unit, Ahri, this unit does not operate well within a magic composition. Essentially, Ahri needs to survive as long as possible in combat to cast her spells multiple times and build up a large amount of energy. Meanwhile, the requirement for a carry in a Mage team is to deal heavy damage in one moment thanks to massive skill damage. As a result, Ahri is only suitable for the Gang team, while the Mage composition is “out meta”.
4 Scholars
In the mid-stage of Season 6, this composition was one of the most annoying and effective at climbing ranks. With Scholar champions having relatively low costs but dealing significant damage like Heimerdinger and Lissandra, you could reroll at level 7 and have a very strong team in the middle and late game. This composition itself is also not easy to take down as Janna has excellent healing capabilities with her abilities.

However, with the removal of all the mentioned names, there is currently no composition utilizing the 4 Scholars threshold. While Renata is indeed a strong damage dealer, this unit desperately needs the Chemtech effect to survive. Silco is also a very strong unit but comes at a very high cost and can only be acquired in the late game.
