In its early days, the game mode Teamfight Tactics was considered one of the most interesting modes but also highly luck-based. Over time, the element of chance has been reduced as players begin to adapt and strategize to fit their playstyle and team composition. Even though later on, TFT introduced many traits that require luck, it does not mean that TFT does not demand player skill.

Recently, Bebe – the famous TFT player from T1, who is also ranked top 1 on the Korean server, made new comments about this game mode. Specifically, in a recent stream, Bebe asserted: “TFT now is 100% luck. You say it depends on luck now? No, it has been a luck-based game for a long time. It’s not a skill-based game at all. If a Gold rank player can defeat a Challenger player, that’s not skill.”
Indeed, with the continuous adjustments made by Riot for TFT, this game mode is becoming increasingly luck-based. For some players, this is a welcome change as it brings the game mode back to its original essence from its early days. However, in response to Bebe’s comments, some players have pushed back. Many believe that, alongside luck, lower-ranked players also need to improve their skills to better assess situations, thereby improving their game and rank.

Of course, there will continue to be much debate over whether TFT is a luck-based or skill-based game, especially whenever Riot prepares to launch a new season or makes significant updates. But regardless, it proves that TFT has truly been and continues to do a great job: attracting as many players as possible, developing day by day, and even gradually becoming distinct from League of Legends.
