In recent years, Vayne Top has gradually become an epidemic, a new symbol of “game-breaking” and the “illusion of personal skill.” The toxicity of this playstyle has even led to a skyrocketing number of players hating Vayne Top and willing to ban her in every match, approaching the number of people who despise Yasuo. So what is the origin and strength of the obsession known as Vayne Top? Let’s find out.

To talk about the Vayne craze, let’s rewind back to 2013. This was considered the peak performance period of the legendary Chinese AD carry – Uzi. At the 2013 World Championship, during the semifinals between Royal Club and OMG, Uzi executed unbelievable plays, surviving with just a sliver of health and decimating the OMG team with Vayne. Combined with a famous “one champ Vayne” YouTuber at the time, Gosu, the love for this Night Hunter ignited in the hearts of Vietnamese gamers.
Of course, at that time, Vayne was still limited to the bot lane and needed support for protection. However, as League of Legends evolved and strategic diversity increased, AD carries could play in lanes other than bot. Then the emergence of top superstar TheShy was like the last straw. Many players began to emulate TheShy’s breathtaking highlights, dominating lanes and obliterating enemy teams with Vayne, causing the trend of picking this Night Hunter in the top lane to explode.

That’s the origin, but what makes Vayne Top so powerful that it has become a new symbol of “game-breaking”? Naturally, we won’t delve into how Vayne’s abilities work since everyone already knows that. The nightmare with Vayne lies in the fact that players using this champion often have an excessive confidence in her power.
Indeed, in the hands of a skilled player, Vayne can dominate a lane incredibly thanks to her long range and true damage from her W – Silver Bolts. However, average players often fail to learn how to “auto spacing” or simply maintain distance to poke the opponent without falling behind in farm. Many specialized top lane players can exploit this to make Vayne Top economically disadvantaged, even when it seems she is winning the lane.

The consequence is that many Vayne Top players find themselves getting ganked, solo-killed, and then “feeding endlessly.” With a champion that only has single-target damage and provides no other versatility, once Vayne Top falls behind, she becomes a “burden” and contributes nothing to the team. In such situations, the other four team members are clearly not happy, and gradually, the dislike for this playstyle grows.

And as we have seen, the number of players hating Vayne Top has only grown, and realistically, gamers have valid reasons to do so. No one wants the fate of their “tryhard” ranked match to rest in the hands of a playstyle that is high-risk and offers little support to the team like Vayne Top.
