After 3 weeks of competition in the LPL Summer 2022, we can somewhat recognize the promising names in the race for the championship. At the top of the leaderboard, we have familiar names like EDG, TES, V5, and JDG. Notably, the reigning world champions – EDG have just defeated a very tough opponent, BLG, thus widening the gap with the mid-table teams.

In the second match between EDG and BLG, the lineup of 5 members from the reigning world champions marked a very memorable milestone. Specifically, the current 5-man lineup of EDG, including Flandre, JieJie, Scout, Viper, and Meiko, has played together for 140 games in the LPL, surpassing the record of the championship-winning lineup of LPL Spring 2020 – JDG. When asked about this milestone, EDG’s captain – Meiko expressed confidence in future titles as they continue to play together.

Question: Today you set a record for the most games played together as a 5-man team in the LPL. What do you think about that?
EDG Meiko: Honestly, for me, the team did not achieve the desired results in the spring split. However, everyone can improve their performance and skills to achieve good results in this summer split. As long as the 5 of us play together, defending our Worlds title is completely possible.
Indeed, with a fierce and highly competitive tournament like the LPL, it is very valuable for EDG to maintain its 5-man lineup and play together. Even the EDG management considered replacing JieJie recently by bringing in JunJia due to JieJie’s poor performance in the spring split. However, JieJie has been playing much better recently compared to last season, so he is guaranteed a starting position.

Perhaps because the weakest link is performing much better, Meiko is confident in EDG’s chances of winning titles in both LPL and Worlds. Indeed, with the “dominating” performance of Scout and Viper recently, combined with a meta that supports EDG’s playstyle, it is not surprising for this team to secure titles in the near future.
