Gen.G matches T1’s record, but still falls short in a crucial aspect
Recently, Gen.G officially concluded the 2025 Regular Seasons group stage with a perfect record of 18 consecutive wins. This can be considered a historic achievement for Gen.G. In Spring 2024, when Gen.G also set an incredibly long unbeaten streak, they did not manage a completely flawless group stage (losing to KT Rolster). Therefore, with this achievement, it marks a historic milestone for Gen.G, allowing them to equal T1’s record set in Spring 2022 for an unbeaten season.

However, the League of Legends community in general, and even Gen.G fans, must admit that these unbeaten records feel somewhat… “bittersweet” for this team and for Chovy himself. After all, both unbeaten records and achievements have been experienced by Chovy. Yet, until now, he has never stepped foot into a finals match at a World Championship.
Among the five members of Gen.G currently, only Kiin and Duro can share this “sad story” with Chovy. However, Duro only joined Gen.G this year, while Kiin has spent most of his career with a mid-tier team, Afreeca Freecs (later known as Kwangdong Freecs and currently DN Freecs). Canyon and Ruler have even gone through periods of losing motivation after achieving every possible glory.

Perhaps if not this season, there will be no season for Gen.G to stand alongside T1
On many forums, fans almost unanimously agree: “Every year is the ‘year of Gen.G’, but they always fall short at the most crucial moment.” Chovy himself, at the time when he received the most expectations, could do nothing to help his team achieve good results.

Gen.G has invested heavily, continuously changing their roster to achieve historic milestones. T1 has remained loyal to ZOFGK for three consecutive years and has two World Championship titles. Therefore, if Gen.G ends up empty-handed at this year’s Worlds, Chovy himself may feel exhausted by then.
