As of now, Teamfight Tactics has gone through 7 seasons with a plethora of champions created. Among the products from the League of Legends “auto chess” team, there are many highly regarded champions like Silco from season 6, Garen from season 5…

However, there are also quite a few “failed products” created by the Teamfight Tactics team that have embarrassed them. According to the project director of Teamfight Tactics – Riot Mortdog, the 2 champions he considers the worst in history are Xin Zhao from season 4 and Zeri from the current season 7.

“You ask me what is the worst champion ever created? I think it’s Xin Zhao from season 4. Looking back, I don’t understand why we designed this character; it simply had terrible skills and didn’t fit any playstyle.
The second place could very well be Zeri from the current season 7. This is probably the weakest 3-cost champion in the current season since it doesn’t deal much damage and only serves to activate traits. Without Seraphine and Graves, probably no one would buy Zeri” – Riot Mortdog shared.

Essentially, for a complex game like Teamfight Tactics, it is extremely rare for a champion to be completely “useless.” Perhaps only the 2 names mentioned by Riot Mortdog are truly that bad.

That being said, producing such poor products is quite normal in the game development process. It provides designers with invaluable lessons to ensure that future seasons of Teamfight Tactics are of better quality.
