Yuumi’s ‘Unfortunate’ Fate at MSI 2023, Yet Players Remain Unhappy

Yuumi has been confirmed absent from MSI 2023, but that's still not enough.

Recently, Riot officially announced the champions that will participate in MSI 2023. Accordingly, almost all champions currently in League of Legends will feature in the first international tournament of the year. However, two names must sit out: Yuumi and the new champion Milio. Notably, both of these champions are primarily designed and frequently used in the Support position.

In Milio’s case, there’s nothing too surprising as he is a newly released champion in Summoner’s Rift. Moreover, Milio has yet to participate in any domestic tournaments. Therefore, unless there are any uncontrollable bugs or issues that Riot cannot fix, Milio should be able to make his debut in Summer 2023, with the World Championship 2023 being the stage for him to showcase his abilities.

However, Yuumi’s situation is different, and the community is quite excited about the prospect of this cat disappearing from MSI 2023. In fact, some players have expressed their dissatisfaction with Riot’s handling of the situation, suggesting that Yuumi should… permanently vanish from League of Legends. The simple reason: Yuumi is an excessively powerful champion without having to do much at all. This unreasonable power has drawn considerable criticism from the community towards Riot.

In contrast to champions like Irelia, Akali, or Yasuo, which can be countered and are only strong with certain items, Yuumi simply needs to attach to her teammates, occasionally fire a Prowling Projectile or use her ultimate in team fights. There have even been moments when players deemed Yuumi suitable for those with a lazy playstyle who want to stay hands-free while still climbing ranks.

Not to mention, as the game progresses, Yuumi’s damage becomes exceedingly powerful for a Support champion. Due to her uncontrollable power, Riot has decided to remove Yuumi from League of Legends for adjustments to align her more with the overall gameplay.

Of course, Yuumi will not be completely removed from Summoner’s Rift. However, it might take a long time for this champion to return, especially in the professional scene. At the very least, it will be some time until Riot feels that the adjustments made for Yuumi are balanced and reasonable.
