Since its inception in the professional League of Legends (LoL) scene, the name SKT T1, now known as T1, has always been regarded as one of the most significant teams to have shaped the history of this game. Not only in LCK, but even in the World Championship, T1 is also the most successful team. At MSI, they have only lost once to the team with the most championships, Royal Never Give Up.

One of the most notable records of SKT T1/T1 is the most domestic championships in the history of League of Legends, up until before Summer 2023. Specifically, including the time they were still known as SKT T1, Faker and his teammates have claimed the championship title 10 times at LCK. Their most recent championship was LCK Spring 2022, where they not only dominated the LCK but also recorded the longest unbeaten streak in League of Legends history.

However, recently, this record of SKT T1/T1 has been broken. Specifically, on the night of July 30 and the early morning of July 31 (Vietnam time), G2 Esports claimed the championship title at the LEC Summer 2023 tournament. As a result, the most successful team in LEC has surpassed T1 to become the team with the most domestic championships in League of Legends history. The broken record of SKT T1/T1 is even more regrettable considering that from LCK Spring 2022 until now, T1 has reached the finals of LCK two more times, only to be defeated by Gen.G on both occasions.

But indeed, in the LEC, G2 remains a powerful and stable force. Although on their journey to the title, sometimes the “Circus” may have comedic moments, it cannot be denied that they are the greatest hope of the Western LoL community. Notably, G2 is the team that ended the glorious era of SKT T1 after defeating them at both MSI and Worlds 2019. That was also the year SKT T1 changed its name to T1.

However, G2 only surpasses T1 by a single domestic championship, while the LCK Summer 2023 tournament is still ongoing. With Faker’s return, T1 still has a chance to even the score with G2 and be ready for a potential showdown with this rival at the upcoming Worlds 2023.
