Recently, Gen.G has continued to claim the title of LCK Summer 2023, marking their third consecutive LCK championship. This achievement places them among the teams with three consecutive LCK titles (alongside SKT T1/T1 and Damwon Gaming/Dplus KIA). Notably, in all three of Gen.G’s championships, their opponent has been T1. It can be said that in the last three seasons, Gen.G and T1 have been each other’s nemesis, determining the success or failure of their seasons.

However, clearly, at the top of this list is still Faker and his teammates. This is because SKT T1/T1 is the team that has written history with countless records in the League of Legends scene. Even in a season that seemed to be the strongest (LCK Summer 2022 and LCK Spring 2023), Gen.G has not been able to replicate the unbeaten record of their fierce rival. Not to mention, the tournaments that Gen.G participated in after their championship, except for LCK Summer 2023, have not yielded the desired results.

In fact, while Gen.G is the top contender for the championship, they faced a defeat against Royal Never Give Up in their opening match at the 2022 World Championship – a team that had to compete from the Play-In stage that year. Moving on to MSI 2023, Gen.G lost to T1 and had to drop to the lower bracket, where they were subsequently defeated by another LPL team, Bilibili Gaming. Notably, BLG was only the runner-up of LPL Spring 2023.

In reality, since rebranding to Gen.G, this team has never had good results in international tournaments. MSI 2023 was only the first time they participated in this event. Meanwhile, the 2022 World Championship was a complete failure. In fact, at that Worlds, if not for Ruler’s miraculous play, it could have been Gen.G who faced the worst outcome, as DK performed significantly better in their match against them.

Coming up, Chovy will participate in two international tournaments (ASIAD and Worlds 2023) while the rest of the players will compete in Worlds 2023. The championship is naturally the highest goal, but for Gen.G, the title will be even more important to help them at least reach the same glory as their fierce rival T1 and shake off the long-held label of being “strong at home but weak abroad.”
