League of Legends Community Discovers a “Strange” Mechanism in 2023 World Championship Pick’Ems, Even 100% Accuracy Leads to a “Bitter” Ending

It's unclear whether this is a flaw on Riot's part in the Pick'Ems section of the 2023 World Championship or if there's something fishy going on behind the scenes.

As every year, as international tournaments approach, Riot will launch the Pick’Ems game mode. This is a prediction game for match outcomes and associated categories, giving players the chance to win exciting prizes, ranging from in-game rewards to physical items delivered directly. The gameplay is also very simple: players need a Riot account -> log in to the event page -> make their predictions for each category -> wait until the tournament ends to start receiving rewards.

For the Pick’Ems event, the items are usually valuable skins, including Ultimate skins. Specifically, in 2023, players who rank first in the Prediction Ball category will receive the Renekton World Championship skin along with the Ranked Champion. For players who predict the 100% correct results of the Pick’Ems category, the reward will be all Ultimate skins.

However, recently, the League of Legends community discovered a factor that could prevent players from ever receiving Ultimate skins even if they predict 100% correctly. Specifically, there are 2 questions related to the Pentakill section in the upcoming 2023 World Championship, under the Prediction Ball category, which are “How many Pentakills will there be in the tournament?” and “Who will achieve at least 1 Pentakill?” However, while players can choose “No Pentakills (tick the 0 box)” for the first question, there is no option to choose “nobody will achieve a Pentakill” for the second question.

Thus, if throughout the tournament no player achieves a Pentakill, then no player will receive the Riot’s 2023 World Championship Renekton skin. Although many believe that there will definitely be at least one Pentakill, this is directly refuted: “Instead of believing there will be a Pentakill, why didn’t they (Riot) make it simpler by including an option like ‘Nobody’? Haven’t there been World Championships without any Pentakills?“.

Currently, Riot has not commented on the incident, but clearly, the League of Legends community is extremely confused. The concern arises from the fear that all calculations could become pointless if a rare situation occurs in the upcoming tournament.
