Recently, GAM Esports achieved a remarkable milestone for VCS at the 2023 World Championship (Worlds) when, for the first time, a team from VCS managed to defeat a team from a Major region in a BO3 match during the Main Event of the highest-level international League of Legends tournament. Prior to this, Team Whales had secured a victory in a BO3 against Team BDS in the Play-In stage. VCS deserves a lot of praise as they are a small region but have shown an incredibly impressive performance at this year’s Worlds.
Of course, it cannot be denied that the Team Liquid players themselves performed well below their potential in the match against GAM. If there is any name that deserves to shine for the LCS representative, it can only be the reigning World Champion – Pyosik. However, even Pyosik was “powerless” especially when GAM had “figured out” and locked down all champions that could help Pyosik create that breakthrough.
Notably, after the GAM – TL match, SofM’s official fanpage immediately posted an update on the results and congratulated the GAM members. Interestingly, in the comments, the page of SofM “lightly” mentioned Teacher Ba. In fact, there were not just one but two comments referencing the famous streamer.
It turns out, the reason was that the player who performed the worst in this match for TL was APA – the Mid Laner for TL. It can be said that throughout the three games, APA was very lackluster despite Pyosik and CoreJJ continuously supporting. In fact, if it weren’t for his teammates constantly “ganking” Kati, APA might have completely lost the Mid Lane to VCS. The mention of Teacher Ba was due to the way APA’s name sounds quite similar to the nickname of the famous streamer.
But certainly, these are just playful remarks from SofM directed at the famous streamer. Moreover, while APA did not perform well, it is still important that the GAM players showed determination, skill, and a better mindset. That is truly the key reason that helped GAM secure victory and nurture hope at this year’s Worlds.
