Riot’s Actions Upset Gen.G Fans
As we know, according to Riot’s rules, any League of Legends team that wins the championship at Riot’s international tournaments will have their images displayed in the in-game client as a form of honor until the next tournament or season appears. However, this recent action has upset Gen.G fans because Riot chose a trophy-lifting image that, while quite grand, obscured Ruler – one of the most important and stable players of Gen.G at the recent MSI 2025.

Many fans even linked this to the notion that Riot is somewhat “undermining” Gen.G compared to other teams, as in the past, when T1 or JDG won championships and were chosen for in-game client backgrounds, the images were always beautiful and featured all members. Moreover, last year, Riot also “angered” Gen.G fans by not changing the in-game client image after this team won MSI that same year, only to later adjust by selecting an image of Gen.G from a previous LCK phase.

This situation has also caused T1 to face backlash, with many comments suggesting that Riot “favors” T1, and this team is truly the “darling” of this publisher due to the views and immense appeal brought by T1 and Faker to the League of Legends franchise. Immediately, these contrasting opinions ignited heated debates on the Vietnamese League of Legends community forums.

Riot Must Correct Its Mistake with Gen.G Immediately
In response to the wave of protests from fans across various regions, according to a recent update, Riot has adjusted the in-game client image of Gen.G to include all 5 members fully. It can be said that, although they have not officially commented, this is seen as a gesture of acknowledgment of the mistake by this publisher. However, Riot also needs to exercise more caution in the future to avoid affecting teams or players that are not involved in the issue.
