If we have to mention a name from T1, apart from Faker, who always impresses the audience every time he competes and is one of the most consistent players after Faker, the player that must be mentioned is definitely Gumayusi. No matter how the early game plays out, as long as the opponents (and even the audience) are not paying attention, Gumayusi will always bring out all the necessary items and be ready for any skirmish situation of T1.
Particularly, in the deciding match against JDG, it was Gumayusi, not anyone else, who shocked the entire League of Legends community with a 1v2 play against the opponents. Notably, an experienced player like SofM was also surprised by Gumayusi. The former “Jungle God” admitted that Gumayusi played exceptionally well in the skirmish near the Dragon pit, and he himself could not explain why Gumayusi was able to continuously “hit and run” and target Zeri (from a farther position) while bypassing Aatrox and dodging Zeri’s skills.
According to SofM‘s analysis, typically, when “hit and run,” players would attack the nearer target. But Gumayusi’s skill and reflexes are on another level, and he knows which target to attack first. Notably, at that moment, Gumayusi also had to maneuver to avoid Zeri’s skills aimed at him. In such a situation, it can only be explained as a superstar moment from Gumayusi.
Additionally, SofM also pointed out the two worst-performing names from JDG in the recent series, namely Knight and Kanavi. JDG’s Mid Laner had no impact in crucial situations, especially in Game 4 when Knight’s Orianna could not affect Faker or T1 at all. Meanwhile, Kanavi, despite having many advantages, had at least two “self-destruct” moments in the deciding game. SofM even bluntly stated: “In this game, only Ruler and Missing still wanted to play the game.”
While T1 played well, the JDG players also performed significantly worse than usual. And when they were already at a disadvantage in terms of mentality and spirit, the superstar moments from Gumayusi or Faker simply made T1’s victory all the more perfect.
