As we know, right after the World Championship 2023 concluded, information about the new champion Hwei has officially been revealed to the League of Legends community worldwide. Accordingly, Hwei is compared to the very famous DOTA 2 champion Invoker due to his extensive skill set. In fact, each different combo of Hwei’s Q, W, and E keys will yield a unique skill with its own function. Additionally, Hwei is also an artist of Summoner’s Rift, making him have a hidden mission with Jhin. In the lore revealed for Hwei, this new champion has a close relationship with the “Death Artist.”

However, Hwei might pose challenges for casual gamers or those with not-so-high skills. For professional players, Hwei’s playstyle may not be as complex as it seems. Specifically, Faker had the opportunity to explore and research this champion during his recent stream.

Faker’s way of understanding Hwei is quite simple yet effective. He only took about 5 minutes to study and grasp all of Hwei’s skills. After that, Faker compared them to the skills of previously existing Mages in League of Legends. For example, he quickly realized that Hwei’s Q – Q skill is quite similar to Brand’s Q – Sear (which also fires a fireball forward, dealing multi-target damage). Or the Q – W skill might remind one of Volibear as it also has a long-range lightning effect to attack targets.

Moreover, Faker also stated that Hwei is an easy champion to play. Specifically, Faker said, “I don’t think this is a difficult champion. But he will be quite weak when first released and has to play from a losing position, defending from the start. Hwei also has many crowd control skills, so he will be very good in team fights. The key is that players need to survive in the lane.” Additionally, Faker mentioned that Aphelios is even harder to play since each gun is a different skill.

In reality, Faker has always been known for thoroughly researching different lane matchups and closely reading every update. Therefore, it is understandable that he can quickly grasp the operational principles of champions. Not to mention, Faker himself possesses very high skills. For players, they might need to practice a lot if they want to master the champion Hwei, especially when just remembering the champion’s skills can be quite complex.
