Since the conclusion of the World Championship 2023, the VCS has officially wrapped up, and now is the time for teams to rebuild their rosters in preparation for the new season. One of the most notable names is GAM Esports. The reigning VCS champions have made significant roster changes, parting ways with their current coaching staff as well as three key players: Kati, Slayder, and Palette. Many concerns were raised since all three were among the top players in their respective positions, and finding suitable replacements will not be easy.
However, it is worth mentioning that according to many online opinions, GAM still retains over 50% of its strength, with Kiaya and Levi still in the lineup. Currently in the VCS, there are almost no toplaners with skills and experience comparable to Sang “Nhỏ”. Alongside him is his seasoned teammate Levi – the most experienced jungler in the VCS. Therefore, if the meta remains supportive, and Kiaya and Levi maintain their performance, GAM will still be a formidable force in the upcoming season.
Not only that, recently, former coach and analyst of GAM, Hankay, revealed that Levi’s role at GAM is much larger than that of a mere player. Hankay stated: “We built a coaching staff in a triangular model, with me, Coach Rei, and Levi. All three of us have an equal voice in training decisions. Fortunately, everything is still going well. I guess it’s because we are similar (in roles) that we can easily share opinions.”
It can be said that what was once thought to be just a playful comment from many VCS fans, the reality is that Levi’s role at GAM is incredibly significant. This is understandable as he is the most experienced player, with influence and reputation not only in GAM but throughout the VCS. Levi’s impact on GAM can be compared to that of Faker on T1 today. Another commonality is that both players are among the oldest in the tournament and are also leading a new generation of players.
Levi himself has gone through many ups and downs with GAM. With a role confirmed directly by those who have been part of GAM, not only currently but also in the future, fans may see Levi truly take on the role of a real coach, especially if one day Levi decides to retire.
