Only a few days remain until the LCK Spring 2024 officially kicks off. On the opening day of the season, LCK will provide a clash between Gen.G and T1. This matchup is not only significant for LCK but also for the global League of Legends community. Moreover, Gen.G is the reigning LCK champion, while T1 is the new champion of the Worlds 2023. According to many evaluations, the team that wins this opening match will set a strong foundation for their journey to claim the title in LCK this year.

However, recently, the young AD Carry Peyz accidentally revealed the scrim results against Kwangdong Freecs – one of the bottom teams in LCK during Summer 2023. Accordingly, the Gen.G stars suffered a crushing defeat against the young squad of KDF. This immediately raised concerns within the Gen.G fan community, especially with T1 looming just a few days away. T1 is undoubtedly a much stronger opponent than KDF. Not to mention, T1 is the team that frequently scrimmed with KDF during Worlds 2023, causing KDF players to face significant challenges.

Furthermore, while scrim results do not fully reflect the outcomes of real matches in the tournament, they are enough for teams to grasp the basic strategic elements of their opponents. For instance, KDF emphasized the diverse champion pool of T1 players when training alongside Faker and his teammates at Worlds 2023. Therefore, Gen.G’s frequent losses could be due to “hiding strategies,” or it might be that Gen.G has not yet fully adapted to the new changes. Even Gumayusi faced many challenges when starting to get used to the 2024 updates, particularly with the significant adjustments made to Rift Herald and the map.

However, the concerns of Gen.G fans are justified. The Gen.G roster for the new season will undergo nearly a complete overhaul, and they will need time to gel together. The synergy among the players will play a crucial role in determining whether Gen.G can compete for the title.
