Faker Extends Contract with T1 and Reactions from the Professional League of Legends Community
As we know, during T1’s final match at Home Ground in Rounds 3-5 of the LCK, T1 officially announced that they, along with Faker, would extend their partnership until 2029. Thus, it is undeniable that Faker is set to become the longest-serving player in the professional League of Legends scene. Moreover, he is the only player who has been associated with just one team for 16 years. T1’s move is akin to activating a “blockbuster” and the professional League of Legends community is astonished.
Accordingly, a series of names from the VCS as well as the global League of Legends community expressed differing emotions regarding this deal. While commentator Hoàng Luân noted that Faker’s extension with T1 might be influenced by the partnership deal with Red Sea Global in Saudi Arabia announced at EWC 2025, commentator Văn Tùng simply expressed satisfaction when watching the announcement clip from T1.
For the global League of Legends community, both Caedrel and Jankos, as well as Doinb, share a common observation that “thanks to Faker continuing to sign with T1 for another 4 years, League of Legends might have an additional 4 years of existence.” Doinb even asserted: “If it weren’t for Faker, no one would care to watch this game anymore.”
Perhaps Faker will indeed help maintain the appeal of League of Legends for a while longer
Without discussing what glories Faker and T1 will achieve in the next 4 years, one fact is clear: 4 years is also the period from the peak of a career to the point of starting to decline for the current stars playing for T1, including DOGK. Thus, it can be said that Faker’s stay at T1 might also influence the current younger players to consider dedicating their careers entirely to this team.
Both Gumayusi and Oner have also affirmed more than once that they wish to compete alongside Faker for as long as possible. And as T1 continues to be sustained, the appeal of League of Legends will remain intact despite changing circumstances.
