At the Worlds, one of the essential elements is the skins honoring the champions. According to Riot’s policy, each player who owns a champion skin will receive a share of the revenue from that skin for a limited time (currently about 1 year from the official launch date). Therefore, almost every player invests heavily in their Worlds skins and wants those skins to reflect their personal characteristics as much as possible.
However, not every Worlds skin is fully agreed upon by the players. Among these, the name Doinb and FunPlus Phoenix comes to mind with a Worlds skin that could be considered one of the “disasters” that even the champions of Worlds 2019 do not want to mention. It is well-known that this is regarded as one of the least attractive skins, generating the most controversy, as well as Doinb’s regret every time he brings it up because he chose a champion that nearly disappeared from the meta after that Worlds – Malphite.
Recently, according to teammates’ revelations, another Worlds champion has expressed deep regret over their choice. Specifically, during a stream and rank climb with BeryL, Aiming revealed that ShowMaker truly regrets choosing Twisted Fate as his Worlds skin. Notably, the 2020 Worlds skin line with a dominant ocean blue color (a color associated with Dplus KIA’s competitive attire when they were still known as Damwon Gaming) is considered one of the most beautiful and “cool” skin lines in League of Legends history.
In reality, ShowMaker’s disappointment is entirely understandable. The champion Twisted Fate is not one that can transcend the meta like names such as Lee Sin or Yasuo, Akali… After a period of “dominating”, Twisted Fate temporarily vanished until Riot “buffed” him back starting Summer 2021. However, after that year’s Worlds, this champion was significantly nerfed and nearly disappeared entirely from the professional scene, especially in the past year of 2023.
Not to mention, Twisted Fate is a male champion. Historically, in League of Legends, apart from a few “national champions” like Yasuo, Lee Sin, Aatrox, Yone, or Teemo, very few male champions are favored for skin purchases. Particularly, Twisted Fate also has several skins with beautiful effects, such as Ultimate Skin Twisted Fate or PAX Twisted Fate. Furthermore, the DWG Twisted Fate skin does not look particularly appealing. This skin is said to diminish the mystery and cunning of the “Card Master” compared to other skins of this champion.

The choice of Worlds skins truly challenges many players, and sometimes they make decisions that do not turn out as expected. However, soon there may be a Hall of Fame for League of Legends players worldwide, and names that have made history in the game, like Doinb or ShowMaker, may no longer have to “cry in regret” over their past choices if Riot allows players to have their own Hall of Fame skin.
