On June 29th (Vietnam time), KT Rolster brilliantly defeated T1. Not only did they end their losing streak against Faker and his teammates that had stretched from the LCK Summer 2024 playoffs until now, but KT’s victory was also a win in a “telecom showdown” on the very first day in LCK history where T1 played at home. External factors, as well as the players themselves, made KT’s victory even more significant. For those who don’t know, in the previous match against OKSavingsBank BRION, BeryL showed clear signs of pain, but against T1, he performed exceptionally well to help his team secure the win.

According to KT’s AD Carry – Deft, this team implemented a strategy identical to Gen.G’s to defeat T1. Specifically, in the post-match press conference, Deft stated: “Our goal was to play aggressively, creating overwhelming pressure in the first 6 minutes of the game, similar to how Gen.G did. We are executing this strategy, and it has proven effective. KT will definitely improve even more to always dominate the first 6 minutes of the game. Gen.G has shown how strong this strategy is, and we can do it too.”

Additionally, Deft also acknowledged that understanding Gen.G’s playstyle gives him and his teammates confidence that they can defeat the reigning LCK champions in the upcoming rematch. Deft remarked: “If we use this very strategy and create pressure while maintaining an advantage after the first 6 minutes, we can absolutely defeat Gen.G in our next encounter.”

In reality, Gen.G dominates nearly every opponent from the start to the middle of the game, then utilizes their advantage to snowball. They execute this playstyle perfectly, and even T1 has not been able to counter it effectively. Moreover, Gen.G’s roster includes players who help them implement this strategy best. Notably, even when one lane fails to achieve its objectives (losing lane), the remaining positions are strong enough to cover any weak links.

Understanding Gen.G’s playstyle is one thing, but countering it is another issue entirely. However, the victory against T1 also shows that KT is back in the race, and other competitors in the LCK Summer 2024 should start to be wary of them.
