Although it is still a relatively new tournament, and not yet officially recognized by Riot in the professional League of Legends tournament system, the Esports World Cup 2024 has witnessed many exciting matches so far. And surprisingly, the number one contender for the championship – Gen.G was defeated and eliminated from the tournament after just one match. They lost with a score of 0-2 against their much lower-rated opponent – Top Esports. Gen.G’s loss shocked the League of Legends community even more than T1’s victory over Bilibili Gaming on the previous match day.

However, there is a clear reality in the match between TES and Gen.G: the players from LCK performed much worse than they had throughout the year. In particular, one player has been identified as Gen.G’s critical weak point, and at a time when the team needed him the most, he even lost to the veteran opponent on the other side. Specifically, the player who performed the worst in the Gen.G – TES match was Peyz. On the HUPU website, he was rated 2.6 points – the same as Chovy and only slightly better than Kiin.

The concerning issue: Kiin is not a player tasked with “carrying the team” in the late game, but that is Peyz’s responsibility. However, when the entire team was at a disadvantage compared to their opponents, Peyz simply could do nothing. In fact, Peyz is considered a contributing factor to Lehends’ disastrous KDA of 0/11/2. When TES pressured, Peyz still needed to “farm” for resources, and Lehends had to step up to protect him during TES’s surprise ambushes.
Despite having won many titles with Gen.G, Peyz has never shown that he can operate independently – a skill that top-tier AD carries like Gumayusi, Ruler, Elk, Viper, and Deft execute very well. In fact, for those who regularly follow T1, there have been numerous matches where Gumayusi almost single-handedly carried the team from start to finish.

Peyz is a young AD carry with a lot of potential for development. Around him are also top-tier players in their positions. However, Peyz’s teammates will also experience ups and downs in performance. The AD carry born in 2005 needs to develop further, or he may forever rely on his teammates in matches.
