Facing an opponent like Kwangdong Freecs, who is currently not performing well, was quite easy for Gen.G, allowing them to secure a spot in the LCK Summer 2024 playoffs early on. Of course, the MSI 2024 champions didn’t miss the opportunity. In fact, Gen.G even experimented with strategies, notably letting Chovy play Draven in the Mid Lane—a pick that might have surprised even KDF. However, the objective was achieved, and Gen.G took a comfortable 2-0 victory, becoming the first team in the LCK Summer 2024 to reach the playoffs.

Additionally, with the MSI 2024 championship just recently, Gen.G has also become the first League of Legends team in the world to secure a spot in the group stage of Worlds 2024. With the first mission accomplished, Gen.G can now comfortably focus on the remainder of the LCK Summer 2024 group stage. This team is predicted to unleash more “unique” strategies to experiment and adapt to different tactics in preparation for the group stage. Moreover, this achievement also marks Chovy and Canyon’s sixth consecutive appearance at the Worlds, from 2019 to the present—a record that even Faker would find difficult to replicate.

However, the fates of these two players are quite different. Canyon has reached the peak of glory for a long time, and although he is still very young (born in 2001, the same year as Chovy), he has already collected all the titles a League of Legends player could dream of. In contrast, reaching the finals of a Worlds still remains a dream and ambition for Chovy, despite having debuted over 7 years ago, being regarded as one of the “prodigies” of the LCK, and having gone through many different team rosters.

Worlds 2024 is another opportunity for Chovy to prove he deserves the title of the best Mid Laner in the world today. Alongside him is a high-performing Canyon. However, perhaps Chovy understands what awaits him if he continues to have another unsuccessful Worlds ahead.
