The Ultimate MSI Champion
As we know, as of now, Gen.G remains the team with the longest unbeaten streak in League of Legends history, having broken the previous record set by T1 back in Spring 2022. Gen.G is also the most flawless MSI champion, completely dominating the tournament and convincingly defeating their “arch-nemesis” Bilibili Gaming.
However, there have been some issues since then, as representatives from Gen.G stated that the team did not receive the proper welcome befitting a champion. In fact, complaints from Gen.G at that time even affected T1 and Faker, as after the MSI stage, Riot announced a Hall of Legends skin for Faker.

The MSI Champion Facing the Most Issues from Riot?
Recently, Riot made another post mentioning the two most recent MSI champions, namely JD Gaming (2023) and Gen.G (2024). However, right below Riot’s post, a representative from Gen.G bluntly asked: “Where is our medal?”.
The reason stems from the fact that JDG received a medal after winning MSI, while Gen.G did not. This is also the first year that Riot has not awarded additional medals alongside the trophy to the tournament champion.

The inquiry from Gen.G’s representatives immediately attracted the attention and debate of the League of Legends community. Most opinions expressed agreement with Gen.G’s question. In fact, Riot only announced some changes in the format of MSI 2024 and did not mention anything about the medals not being awarded. Many viewers also admitted: If Riot had not posted this photo and Gen.G had not questioned it, they themselves would not have realized that this year’s MSI champion did not receive a medal.

Currently, Riot has not provided any answers to the inquiries from Gen.G’s representatives or the many viewers. However, if Riot has “forgotten,” this will be a serious oversight for the publisher. If this is a policy for MSI starting this year, Riot will have to provide an appropriate and reasonable explanation, especially since Gen.G has an even more impressive performance in MSI 2024 than many previous champions.
