On the afternoon of January 6th (Vietnam time), the Korean League of Legends community was buzzing with news that former Griffin player and current LCK commentator Wadid was caught sharing a gaming account with someone else. The incident came to light after an ID with a numbered name appeared in Wadid’s chat channel. Initially, the former G2 Esports star denied the claims, but after evidence surfaced showing Wadid had played several matches with this ID, he could no longer deny it.

Wadid posted a confession and apology on his personal Instagram, stating that he once had the intention to “cover the sky with one hand.” In addition, Wadid also mentioned that he has “frozen” all his activities in the League of Legends community and takes full responsibility for his actions.

In the LCK and the League of Legends community as a whole, account sharing is a very sensitive issue. Riot has laws regarding this to minimize the problem of account boosting. Remember, during the 2021 World Championship, Canyon of DWG KIA also violated this rule when he used a game account belonging to a DWG KIA staff member during a game session with singer Kang Hye-won – a former member of IZ*ONE.

This incident has also garnered significant attention from the VCS community. However, the reason is not solely because Wadid is well-known in the Vietnamese League of Legends scene, but because it brings back memories of the Zeros – Optimus drama from years ago. At that time, Zeros shared an account with Minas and was caught by Optimus. However, when the former GAM Esports star accused Zeros, most comments were aimed at criticizing him and suggesting that Optimus was playing dirty. In fact, many prominent figures in the League of Legends community also attacked Optimus at that time.

In light of Wadid’s incident, some VCS fans have “brought up old stories” to mock the “king of penalties” Zeros and those who criticized Optimus back then.

Riot has very strict regulations regarding actions that could lead to account boosting or playing for others in ranked games, especially for professional players. Adhering to common gaming rules and self-discipline is the only way for League of Legends players in general and the VCS region in particular to develop sustainably.
